The Texas real estate exam has 125 multiple-choice questions split into two timed sections, administered by PearsonVUE:

  1. National portion: 85 questions (80 scored + 5 unscored pretest) — 150 minutes
  2. State portion: 40 questions (30 scored + 5–10 unscored pretest) — 90 minutes

You need a minimum score of 70% on each scored section to pass (at least 56/80 on the national and 21/30 on the state portion). You won't know which questions are pretest, so answer every question. You receive your pass/fail result immediately after the exam.

On exam day, bring a valid government-issued photo ID. Your name must match your TREC application exactly.

If you fail one section, you only retake that section (with a new $43 fee). You have 12 months from TREC approval and up to 3 attempts per section — after 3 failures on a section, TREC requires 30 additional hours of remedial education before retesting.
